Terminal

VS Code’s terminal and shell integration, in a window built for agents.

Station’s terminal is xterm.js on the same release line VS Code ships, with VS Code’s shell integration scripts ported over. The shells report every command, so each gets a mark, an exit-code dot and a place you can jump back to.

5
shells, found on disk: PowerShell 7, Windows PowerShell, Git Bash, cmd, WSL
1,000
lines of scrollback restored per terminal (VS Code restores 100)
100 ms
shared drawing tick for terminals you are not typing in

1/3 · Every command gets a mark

Each command gets a mark in the margin. A failing test run turns its mark red and keeps its exit code, so you can see what broke without scrolling.

Terminal

Commands you can see

Shell integration (OSC 133 and 633) gives every command a mark in the margin and a dot that turns red when it fails, with the real exit code, not just 0 or 1. Ctrl+↑ and Ctrl+↓ jump between commands; the working directory is tracked without asking the shell twice.

Built for agents

Each agent tab shows working or waiting, and how full that agent’s context window is. Ctrl+Shift+O opens the composer (a roomy box where Enter is a new line and a draft survives closing) and drops what you wrote into the terminal unsent. Pasting a long prompt into Claude Code arrives as one paste.

Comes back as it was

Layouts, scrollback and each terminal’s folder are restored when Station starts. A terminal that was running an agent reopens as that agent, resumed with claude --resume on the shell’s own command line; nothing is typed for you.

Light on the machine

Shells live in a separate process: if node-pty crashes, you lose terminals, not the window. Terminals you are not typing in draw on one shared 100 ms tick; the one you type in draws at once. That change took six busy agents from most of a CPU core to a fraction of it.

  • !name jumps to another project, !name C:\path registers one
  • Clickable file:line:col paths, search, sticky scroll, snippets
  • Alt-arrow focus chords that survive AltGr keyboard layouts
